Comments

When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be checked against the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available here. After approval, your comment and profile picture (if any) are visible to the public on this site.

We use Akismet to filter comment spam. Akismet processes the content of submitted comments, the submitter’s IP address, browser user agent, and referrer to assess whether a comment is spam. See the Automattic Privacy Policy for details.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, maps, or social media posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website, which may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, except where we are required to keep it for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
